You will receive:
- At the end of the classroom session, you will be receive a written test.
- At the end of the range session, you will be tested on your shooting proficiency.
- The state requires a score of 70% or better on both the written and range tests.
- Proof of training from USA Training Academy
Your next step to get the license: 1. Gather your application and documents.
- Go to this link to complete the Gun Permit Application: https://dl.safety.tn.gov/_/#1
- After completing the gun permit application the State will send you the application number. Bring that number to class.
- DD214 form if you have ever been in the military. (For DMV use only, we don't need it for your class)
- Court Clerk certified final disposition of any arrests. (For DMV use only, we don't need it for your class)
- Proof of Citizenship documents if you immigrated to the United States (such as a Green Card). (For DMV use only, we don't need it for your class)
- Your credit card or debit card or cash.
2. You may begin your Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit application online, but to complete the process you must visit a Driver Services Center with the following documents:
Proof of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident Status
Proof of SSN
Proof of handgun/firearm training or proficiency as required for type of permit applying for
Two Proofs of Tennessee Residency with your name and resident address - NO P.O. BOXES (Documents must be current. Must be dated within last 4 months.)
Proof of any name changes if different than name on primary ID
Valid government issued photo
*If applying for a Non-Resident permit (Enhanced only), you must provide proof that you are currently employed at least 30 hours per week in Tennessee and have been for at least 6 consecutive months, as well as provide a valid handgun permit from your state of residence.
Take you documents to any full service DMV facility to process your gun permit application.
